From 1 August 2026, Jersey’s patent and design intellectual property registers will be administered by the Jersey Financial Services Commission as part of the launch of a modernised Intellectual Property framework.
This change is administrative does not change the underlying law for patent or registered design protection in Jersey, and the existing re-registration requirements continue to apply for these rights.
Jersey does not operate a separate substantive patent or design examination system for new applications. Instead, protection is obtained by applying to re-register the UK right in Jersey in accordance with Patents (Jersey) Law 1957 and Registered Designs (Jersey) Law 1957.
