Once your trade mark is registered in Jersey, it becomes a valuable business asset. To keep it protected, you may need to renew it or update your registration details over time. This section explains the key actions you may need to take after.
Renewing your trade mark
A Jersey trade mark registration lasts for 10 years from the filing date. You must renew your trade mark to keep your protection.
When to renew
up to six months before the expiry date
a six month grace period will be available after the expiry date (additional fees will apply)

pay the renewal fee for the class or classes you want to keep
the renewal fee must be paid online by debit or credit card
If you do not renew in time, your trade mark will be removed from the register and your protection in Jersey will end.
Updating your details
It is important to keep your information up to date so we can maintain an accurate register.
Tell us if:
your address changes
you appoint or change your trade mark agent
your legal name changes (supporting documents may be required)
Keeping your trade mark valid
To keep your trade mark protected, it must be used in Jersey.
a trade mark may be challenged if it is not used for five years
you may be required to show evidence of use if challenged
Use your trade mark in the course of trade for the goods or services it is registered for.
Transferring ownership
A registered trade mark can be bought, sold, or assigned to another person or business.
How to record a transfer
submit a request to record the transfer via mylPO
provide evidence of the transfer of ownership (for example, a deed of assignment)
Until the transfer is recorded, the previous owner will remain listed on the public register.
